Buju's trial delayed
Buju's trial delayed
Monday, 19 April 2010
Buju Banton.Reggae superstar Buju Banton will have to spend another two months in jail on drug charges after his trial was on Monday delayed until June 10.
Buju, whose real name is Mark Myrie, has been behind bars since being arrested in December when he was caught allegedly trying to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine from a United States (US) undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota, Florida.
The case was expected to go to trial on Monday but according to reports coming out of Florida, US District Judge James Moody pushed the date back to June 10.
No reason was given for the change.
Buju Banton pleaded not guilty to the accusation in January and his lawyer, David Oscar Markus, has filed an official complaint in court, claiming the US government entrapped the star.
